I am a hatha yoga teacher confronting the onset of rheumatoid arthritis and the accompanying fatigue and pain in some of my joints. Buoyed by the science behind the Auto Immune Protocol (AIP) of the Paleo Approach, I have made a personal commitment to spend 6-8 weeks exploring whether avoiding tomatoes, corn and eggs and the other foods listed below will bring ease to my symptoms. I started following the AIP on Friday, August 29, 2014.

What is allowed:

  • pastured and wild-caught animal proteins
  • most vegetables

What is excluded:

  • dairy/eggs
  • all grains (including corn, rice, quinoa, amaranth)
  • nightshades (tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant)
  • legumes (beans, peanuts, peanut butter
  • sugar and all substitutes (including stevia)
  • nuts/seeds
  • alcohol
  • coffee
  • chocolate
  • processed foods
  • NSAIDs (Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs)
